Vallabh Acharya Jayanti 2016 – April 15 (Friday)
Vallabhacharya Jayanti is celebrated because of a popular belief that on this day,Lord Krishna in the form of Shrinathji was seen by Vallabhacharya, who is said to be the founder of Pushti Sect. Vallabhacharya Jayanti is observed on the Magh Shukla Paksha Pratipada.

Lord Krishna is said to be the supreme God and it was considered that his blessings could help any human being to attain Moksha. So, worshiping Lord Krishna in the form of Shrinathji was introduced and justified by Vallabhacharya, who was one of the most popular saints belonging to Vaishnava Sect. Because of this very fact, Vallabhacharya Jayanti is celebrated with great fervor and zeal every year by the devotees of Shri Vallabhacharya and Lord Krishna alike.
Legends
Legend associated with these festival states that Shri Vallabhacharya was once moving towards North West part of India and there he observed a mysterious phenomenon near Mount Govardhan. He saw a cow that was shedding milk daily on a particular spot in the mountain. On digging that place, the idol of Shrinathji was founded. So, it is believed that Lord Krishna hugged Vallabhacharya and gave darshan to him in the form of Shrinathji.
Vallabhacharya is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Agni by some people.
The followers of Vallabhacharya worship Bala Krishna or Young Krishna and this jayanti is more popular amongst them only.

Traditions
On this day the temples are decorated beautifully with flowers all over and Abhishekam of Lord Krishna is done early in the morning followed by a properAarti. Bhajans and chants in the name of Lord Krishna are sung all day long. People worships Lord Krishna and special prayers, speeches and yajnas are held all day. Then, images of Lord Krishna are kept on a rath and a type of Jhanki and are rotated towards every home in the streets of the followers of Shri Vallabhacharya.
Then, at last Mangal Abhishek of Lord Krishna is done and Prasad is being offerred to all the devotees inside the temple. The important literary works of shri Vallabhachara are observed and praised on this day. These are written and available both in Brij and Sanskrit language.
This jayanti is observed basically on Varudhini Ekadashi which occurs in the Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month according to the North Indian calendar and Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month according to Tamil calendar. It is predominantly a festival of Hindus and is celebrated in many parts of the country especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chennai, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
There are as such no typical types of rituals that are being performed on this day. People keep fast all day long though it is not a compulsory act. Special prayers and chants are held for Shri Vallabhacharya on this day. His preachings are spread through speeches popular amongst the devotees. People celebrate this festival with utmost dedication and faith towards Shri Vallabhacharya and Lord Krishna.

Varuthini Ekadashi Vrat Katha (STORY)
Varuthini Ekadasi most mercifully descends in the month of Vaisakha and is described in details in a conversation between Sri Krsna and Yudhisthira Maharaj. Once upon a time the sublime king Yudhisthira asked the Lord: “Please explain to me the process for observong this Ekadasi which takes place during the waning Moon in the month of Vaisakha. What is the process for observing this Ekadasi and what results may be obtained by such practice.”
Lord Krsna replied: “My dear Raja (king) the name of this Ekadasi is Varuthini and it awards one greatly intrinsic fortune, both in this life and the next. By following the vow of Ekadasi one obtains perpetual happiness and his sinful reactions dwindle as of a dimminuendo. By following such a vow an unfortunate wife grows fortunate, a lame man may leap and a blind man see. A human being attains prosperity in this life and the next, and even without realising so; an animal may be liberated from the cycle of birth and death. Many saintly kings such as Dhundhumara and Jambhudra became liberated by following this delectable and most transcendent of days… Varunthini Ekadasi.”
“O great king! Donating an elephant is superior to donating a horse, donating land is superior to donating an elephant and donating sesame seeds is greater than donating sesame seeds and donation of food grains is greater than donating gold. In fact there is no greater charity than donating food grains in charity. By such munificence one can satisfy the forefathers, the demigods and all living entities. The learned scholars have recorded in their Vedic legacy that, giving a daughter in charity is equal to giving grains in charity. The Supreme Lord Himself has compared donating food grains to be equal in stature and benificence to donating cows! Moreover, among all kinds of charities sharing one’s knowledge with others is the highest.
“By following Varuthini Ekadasi one can attain the results of all charities. A person who earns his livelihood by cowardly selling of his daughter, deserves to live in hell untill the end of time. Therefore no one should ever accept wealth in exchange for his daughter. A householder who, under the influence of greed sells his daughter in exchange for money becomes a cat in his next life. But one who decorates his daughter with beatific ornaments according to his own capacity and gives her away in all good faith to a qualified and chaste groom, even Citragupta-the secretary of Yamaraja, is unable to count his piety.
The follower of this Ekadasi should abstain from eating out of a bell metal pot, eating meat, masura gram, chickpea, spinach, honey, accepting foodstuffs cooked by others, eating more than necessary, eating more than once and engaging in sex life from the day before Ekadasi. He should not engage in gambling, sleeping, eating betel nuts, brushing his teeth, blaspheming anyone, gossiping, speaking ill truths, speaking with a sinful person, becoming angry and telling lies on the day of Ekadasi. If one observes the Ekadasi day in this manner with great tenacity and determination, according to these reglatory stipulations-all his sinful reactions will be completely annihilated and he will attain the supreme destination. One who remains awake on the day of Ekadasi and worships Lord Janardana becomes freed from all sins and attains the supreme goal of life. Anyone who hears or reads some narration of the inscrutable glories of this Ekadasi surely achieves the result of donating one thousand cows, and being freed from all his sinful reactions he attains the abode of Visnu.”

The Bhagavata Purana describes that Vishnu descended as the Vamana avatar to restore the authority of Indra over the heavens, as it had been taken by Mahabali, a benevolent Asura King. Bali was the great grandson of Hiranyakshipu, the grand son of Prahlada.
King Mahabali was a generous man who engaged in severe austerities and penance and won the praise of the world. This praise, from his courtiers and others, led him to think of himself as the greatest person in the world. He believed that he can help any one and can donate whatever they ask. Even though he became benevolent, he became pompous of his activities and forgot that the almighty is above him. Dharma says that one should do his duty and helping others is the duty of a king. Mahabali was a devoted worshiper of the Lord. The story is an ample example that the almighty, the Parabrahma is neutral and unbiased; he only tries to balance nature. He showers his divine light to all, irrespective of what they do.
Vamana, in the guise of a short Brahmin carrying a wooden umbrella, went to the king to request three paces of land. Mahabali consented, against the warning of his guru, Sukracharya. Vamana then revealed his identity and enlarged to gigantic proportions to stride over the three worlds. He stepped from heaven to earth with the first step, from earth to the netherworld with the second. King Mahabali, unable to fulfill his promise, offered his head for the third. Vamana then placed his foot and gave the king immortality for his humility.
In worshiping Mahabali and his ancestor Prahláda, he conceded sovereignty of Pátála, the netherworld. Some texts also report that Vamana did not step into the netherworld, and instead gave its rule to Bali. In giant form, Vamana is known as Trivikrama.
Just before King Mahabali was pushed out of this earth, he was given permission by Vamana to visit his people once a year. The Onam festival is a celebration of welcoming Mahabali home to his lost kingdom. During this festival, beautiful floral decorations are made in every house and boat races are held throughout Kerala. A twenty-one-course feast is the most important part of the Onam festival.
Mahabali symbolizes ahankar, the three feet symbolizes the three planes of existence (Jagrat, Swapna and Sushupthi) and final step is on his head which elevates from all three states and he attains moksha.
Ovalu Aarti Madangopala is one of the most popular Marathi Aarti of Shri Krishna. This Marathi Aarti of Shri Krishna is recited on most occasions related to Lord Krishna especially on Janmashtami day.
